Op donderdag 22 augustus nodigen we je uit voor een bijzondere avond in Movie W. De avond begint met een heerlijk Colombiaans diner (inloop om 17:00 uur, diner om 18:00 uur), gevolgd door de film Los Reyes del Mundo (The Kings of the World). Deze betoverende en ontroerende film heeft al harten veroverd in Colombia en andere landen. Nu is het tijd dat ook het Nederlandse publiek kennismaakt met dit cinematografische meesterwerk. Een premieren in Nederland.
Los Reyes Del Mundo van regisseuse Laura Mora Ortega kent geen gebrek aan prachtige shots. De film speelt zich af in Colombia en volgt vijf tieners die een nieuw leven willen beginnen, weg van het geweld en de armoede waarmee ze zijn opgegroeid. Terwijl de film zich verplaatst van de drukke straten van de stad Medellin naar het mistige Andes gebergte, legt Lauro Mora een even verbluffend als oogstrelend beeld vast van een land in transitie. Los Reyes Del Mundo is niet zomaar de zoveelste sociale film over armoede en onrecht in Colombia. De dromerige en surrealistische beelden en het dynamische camerawerk maken deze film heel bijzonder. De camera zit voortdurend op de huid van de personages: hij loopt mee, speelt mee, klimt mee en struikelt mee. Een terechte winnaar op het filmfestival van San Sebastián.

The film is set in Colombia and follows five teenagers who want to start a new life, away from the violence and poverty they have grown up with. As the film moves from the busy streets of Medellin to the misty Andes mountains, Laura Mora captures a breathtaking and visually stunning portrayal of a country in transition. Los Reyes Del Mundo is not just another social film about poverty and injustice in Colombia. The dreamy and surreal images and dynamic camerawork make this film truly special. The camera is constantly close to the characters: it walks with them, plays with them, climbs with them, and stumbles with them. A well-deserved winner at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
