City of Cultures Festival Iran 2018 Qanatlezing Henk van SChaik en Arash Salek

[:nl]

Qanat-lecture with images about qanats and watermanagement in Iran by Henk van Schaik on thursday May 17th. You are most welcome in FORUM (building 102, Room C222) Campus WUR, Wageningen. Access is free.

Iran has been using qanats for more then 2000 years. These underground aquaducts transport water over long distances in hot dry climates to places where no agriculture is possible without irrigation.

Henk van Schaik is ambassador Water and Heritage at ICOMOS Nederland. It will be a special presentation in combination with the WUR and Kaveh Hosseini. Henk will explain the qanat (Persian: كاريز) systems –  underground aquaducts – enabling the transport of groundwater from the mountains into the lower areas. This technology was developed in Iran and later also used in Japan, Marocco and even the USA (wikipedia).

City of Cultures has an extensive program from 5 to 8 July. This year the festival is about Iran.[:en]
